SAFETY RULES

For your own safety and that of others, it is not allowed to walk around the hotel buildings while wet or barefoot.

For security reasons, unregistered persons are not allowed in the hotel rooms.

The hotel is monitored by security personnel and areas are constantly supervised. If needed, please contact reception— extension 206.

If you lose your key, please inform reception. A replacement will be provided for the corresponding fee.

The hotel is not responsible for the loss of personal items and/or valuables that are not deposited in the safe.

The hotel has an emergency power generator. In case of a power outage there is no cause for alarm; the generator supplies electricity to all corridors, emergency exits, communications, fire protection systems and other key areas of the hotel. We recommend staying in place until the generator activates— this occurs within 30 seconds.

BEACH RULES

Beaches in Mexico are federal property; the hotel therefore assumes no liability for loss or forgetting of personal belongings or for accidents that occur on the beach.

As a precaution and for greater safety, a flag is flown daily on the beach, the color of which serves as guidance on sea conditions:

GREEN FLAG: Calm seas, swimming allowed.
YELLOW FLAG: Caution, rough seas, swimming is dangerous.
RED FLAG: Warning, dangerous seas, swimming prohibited.

The hotel is not responsible for beach incidents related to leisure activities not organized by the hotel. Lifeguard service from 8:00 to 17:00.

Parents are responsible for keeping their children under constant adult supervision.

Please be considerate; for safety reasons do not use glass containers. Do not swim beyond the buoy line.

FIRE

What you should know in the event of a possible fire at the hotel:

  1. Always keep your room card in the same place so you can find it easily.
  2. Locate the emergency exits: windows, doors and stairways as well as fire extinguishers and alarm systems in the hotel.
  3. Let someone know where you are in the hotel. If the phone works, use it to call for help and report the fire.
  4. Moisten towels and sheets; for your safety you might need them to cover yourself and to seal doors to prevent smoke from entering.
  5. Touch the doorknob before opening. If it is hot, do not open the door—this indicates a nearby fire and an explosion could occur. If it is cool, open the door and proceed to the stairs.
  6. If there is heavy smoke, cover your nose and mouth with a damp towel or sheet and crawl to the exit—smoke is highly toxic. If your floor’s hallway is taken by fire and smoke, remain in your room with the door closed. Hang a sheet out the window so firefighters know you are there.
  7. In the event of fire, we recommend as a rule for survival that you remain calm and do not let panic take over—it is the most dangerous enemy.

HURRICANE

The Caribbean is prone to tropical storms and hurricanes from June to November, which are named in alphabetical order in advance. Authorities and the Riviera Maya community are highly aware of these phenomena and act in an organized and safe manner. A hurricane or cyclone is formed by low-pressure systems that create strong winds between 60 and 300 km/h and large waves along the coast. In an alarm situation, authorities order the evacuation of hotels in accordance with their plans to safe, prepared shelters.

When the eye of the hurricane passes over the affected area, there is an astonishing calm and silence for an indefinite period; after the center passes, very strong winds resume in the opposite direction from the original winds. Management, in coordination with the hotel direction, will inform our guests about the measures and procedures to be followed in the different evacuation phases.

In case of a hurricane we will inform you through Reception and Public Relations about the civil protection guidelines to safeguard your physical integrity and your belongings.

“Unlimited Nature” was born from our commitment, respect and care for the environment, creating a culture with programs and activities that protect our planet and benefit our social surroundings. Below are the programs we carry out:

OUR PROGRAMS

DONATIONS.
For the benefit of the community we regularly donate uniforms, clothing, towels, bed linens, furniture, food and quality items through the Centro Ecológico Akumal.

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS.
In collaboration with the Centro Ecológico Akumal we carry out various awareness and training programs to promote environmental consciousness among our staff and in nearby communities.

SEA TURTLE PROTECTION PROGRAMS.
We currently implement different measures aimed at curbing irrational fishing, nest plundering and ecosystem destruction, in order to avoid all human-caused threats that endanger sea turtles with extinction.
The sea turtle conservation program runs from April to September to protect, monitor, research and preserve the populations that come ashore on the coasts of Quintana Roo.

ENERGY SAVING.
Electricity use is fundamental today for a large part of our activities; thanks to this energy we enjoy a better quality of life.

With the push of a button we get light, heat, cold, image or sound. Its use is essential, and we seldom pause to reflect on its importance and the advantages of using it efficiently.

Saving energy, using electricity properly and protecting the environment does not mean giving up our standard of living or daily needs. On the contrary: changes in behavior and attitude improve efficiency in electricity consumption, the rational use of energy resources and the preservation of our natural environment.

  1. Air conditioner filters are cleaned regularly.
  2. Lights are turned off to make use of sunlight.
  3. Room air conditioning turns off automatically when the balcony door opens.
  4. Reuse of towels and bed linens is encouraged.

REEF PROTECTION.

From Cancun to Belize stretches the second-largest coral barrier reef in the world. The coral reef stands out for its great beauty and diversity and is of utmost importance for underwater life.

We have implemented a protection program in which we provide information on proper care and take special precautions to avoid any damage, thus raising awareness of the protection of our ecosystem.

PROTECTION OF FLORA AND FAUNA.

The flora and fauna of the region is under strict regulations to prevent possible harmful effects of human activity.

Through monitoring, a registry of flora and fauna has been created to identify and preserve species around Akumal Bay Beach & Wellness Resort.

ECOLOGICAL RULES

A cigarette butt takes more than two years to decompose. Please do not discard it on the beach.

Corals, shells and conchs provide shelter to other marine species. Please do not collect them—it is prohibited by law.

Flashlights and camera flashes disorient some nocturnal animals and disturb their cycles.

Thousands of animals die from bottles, straws and plastic bags thrown into the sea.

The use of short fins and rigid life vests is mandatory.
